Magnesium hydroxide can be used in pulp bleaching. Compared with the traditional bleaching process, magnesium hydroxide can replace caustic soda. At the same time, magnesium hydroxide can improve the viscosity of slurry, maintain the brightness of pulp, and reduce the content of COD and production cost. In the process of hydrogen peroxide bleaching pulp, magnesium oxide or magnesium hydroxide can replace caustic soda, play a role in reducing the content of iron and manganese ions in the slurry, but also can avoid the existence of excessive iron and yellow, improve the quality of slurry. At the same time, magnesium oxide and magnesium hydroxide have buffer effect, and easy to control pH value, if with phosphate, silicate and other inorganic complexing agent with the effect will be better.

Magnesium oxide can be used as a wetting agent to improve pulp deinking. The traditional sulfite pulping process is improved to make magnesium sulfite blending process. After improvement, the wood of low quality can be used as raw material, and the pulp produced can be used to make news printing paper, and the pharmaceutical and waste heat used can be recycled. In this way, many ecological and economic problems in traditional sulfite pulping operations are solved for paper mills.
